Boran Ranch Mitigation Bank

The Boran Ranch Mitigation Bank (BRMB) is one of the largest and most diverse wetland systems serving the nearby 90,000 acre Peace-Myakka Wildlife Corridor.  The BRMB provides ephemeral wet prairie habitat, deep marsh pools that serve as aquatic refuges, and forested wetland habitat supported by restored oak hammock and long leaf pine flatwoods.

Agricultural drainage ditches were removed to restore wetland hydrology across the site.  Following initial exotic species eradication, a combination of recruitment from the native seed bank, upland and wetland seeding, and native plant installation was required to restore vegetative communities.  The project has resulted in the restoration of over 160 acres of functional wetland from improved pasture, and another 132 acres of enhancement of highly degraded wetland habitat.  The site is now managed primarily with fire.

The BRMB has been approved by for over 200 credits that can be used to offset herbaceous or forested impacts.

The Boran Ranch Mitigation Bank service area follows the SWFWMD Peace River Basin boundary. To verify if your project qualifies for credit purchase and to receive up-to-date price and availability information, please call 888-536-2855.
