Myakka Mitigation Bank

The Myakka Mitigation Bank (MMB) is a critical component of the Peace - Myakka Wildlife Corridor that encompasses over 90,000 acres. The 380-acre MMB is a part of Longino Ranch’s 3,800 acres of permanent conservation land, which the family has committed to protect and manage in perpetuity for pasture, native range, and selective timber harvesting.   MMB is embedded within these conservation lands and enjoys restrictions from cattle grazing and timber harvesting.  Combining mitigation banking with the conservation easement sale provided the economic justification for preserving this corridor along the northern border of the City of North Port.

Severe drainage by previous owners had lowered average water levels in the bank by over 2 feet. As part of the mitigation restoration plan, all drainage ditches in the MMB have now been removed, resulting in the conversion of 175 acres of improved pasture and upland forest to wetland habitat.  An additional 150 acres of degraded wetlands have now been enhanced by exotic species removal in conjunction with improved hydrology.

The MMB has been approved for over 220 UMAM credits that can be used to offset herbaceous or forested impacts.

The Myakka Mitigation Bank service area follows the SWFWMD Myakka River Basin boundary. To verify if your project qualifies for credit purchase and to receive up-to-date price and availability information, please call 888-536-2855.
